For PPE brands planning to enter the European market, EN ISO 16321 is the key standard for occupational eye and face protection.

The current harmonized reference is EN ISO 16321-1:2022+A1:2025, based on ISO 16321-1:2021.

What Is EN ISO 16321?

EN ISO 16321 covers occupational eye and face protection against hazards such as impact, flying particles, dust, liquid splash and optical radiation.

It replaces the older EN 166 framework for new occupational eye protection development in Europe.

EN ISO 16321 Is Not the Same as CE Certification

Passing EN ISO 16321 testing does not by itself complete the CE conformity process.

Safety eyewear sold as PPE in the EU must comply with Regulation (EU) 2016/425. For applicable products, the conformity process includes assessment by a Notified Body (NB), which can issue the EU type-examination certificate required for CE marking.

Testing and Certification Support

Greatland can assist with EN ISO 16321 product development and arrange third-party laboratory testing.

For CE certification, we can also coordinate with the customer during the Notified Body certification process.
