For PPE brands planning to enter the U.S. market, ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 is the key safety eyewear standard to understand.

The current edition is ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2025, which covers performance, testing, optical quality and product markings for occupational eye and face protection.

What Is the Difference Between Z87 and Z87+?

Z87 indicates that the product meets the applicable ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 requirements.

Z87+ is used for eyewear that meets the applicable high-impact requirements.

Compliance applies to the complete protector, including both the frame and lens.

Does ANSI Require Third-Party Certification?

Unlike the European PPE system, ANSI Z87.1 does not use a mandatory Notified Body certification process.

Manufacturers are responsible for ensuring that their products meet the applicable ANSI requirements.

At Greatland, we can perform internal ANSI testing during product development. If a third-party laboratory report is required, we can also assist with external testing.
